My product is Irish Spring and it is a body wash. On the Environmental Working Group’s “Skin Deep” website it had score of five. That is a good score but not the best score. I still use Irish Spring Body Wash.
These are the ingredients in Irish spring: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Betaine, Glucoside, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, DMDM Hydantoin, Polyquaternium-7,Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid, FD&C Green no. 3 and Green no. 5.
The worst ingredient in Irish spring is fragrance. It gets the score of eight out of ten because it can cause irritation to skin, eyes, lungs, and it can produce allergic reactions. There is another bad ingredient called DMDM Hydantoin that releases formaldehyde into the product.
Formaldehyde is very bad for humans because it can make you feel sick if you breathe a lot of it. Formaldehyde is used as a disinfectant and to embalm dead bodies. If they breathe in too much formaldehyde, people can have symptoms such as sore throat, cough, scratchy eyes, and nosebleeds. Formaldehyde irritates the airways, people with asthma or other breathing conditions are very sensitive to formaldehyde.
An alternative to Irish Spring Body Wash is Burt’s Bees Natural Skin Care For Men, Body Wash because it has no fragrance and it receives a score of one out of ten. The ingredient that is the worst in this product has a citrus peel oil, but received a three out of ten so it’s okay.
