The Secret Behind Snickers


Snickers are yummy in many ways, but there’s a downside to that, and we will teach you about that later on. First of all, a Snickers is a delicious chocolate bar. Whenever you bite it, it’s like you enter a paradise – well at least that’s our opinion. The product Snickers is known in many countries and is the go-to chocolate bar. People love this chocolate bar because of it’s delicious caramel and sweet nuts, plus who doesn’t like a chocolate bar that has nuts in it… except for people who have nut allergies.

To let you know, nine out of ten people would rather just buy products without looking at the ingredients. We learned about this in an article our class debated with earlier the year called, “Ignorance is Bliss: Why Happiness Has Nothing To Do With Knowledge,” by Andrew Lewis.


Some of the main ingredients in a Snickers include milk chocolate, corn syrup, sugar and hydrogenated soybean oil. On Fooducate.Com, Snickers scored a D+.  One item you should look out for is the hydrogenated soybean oil.  This oil is bad because it can contribute to heart disease, stroke and, in a worst case, death.

Hydrogenated basically means to have been processed to make something last longer on the shelf. Hydrogenated oil is oil in which the fatty acids have been changed to a different form chemically, which does several things. Hydrogenated oil lasts longer and will not become stale as quickly as regular oil. It also has a higher melting point, which makes it better for frying and making pastries.  In the 1990s scientists started to realize that hydrogenation changes the actual structure of oil, which can result in negative health effects.

There are three bad parts with partially hydrogenated soybean oil: trans fats, genetic engineering of soybeans and how soy affects the human body.  Unfortunately, saturated fats are still mistakenly considered unhealthy by many health “experts,” when trans-fats are probably much worse for human health. We found this information in an article written by Dr.Mercola.

The University of Osb in Norway in 1995 showed that eating or drinking hydrogenated oils may cause coronary heart disease in men and women. About 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year– that’s 1 in every 4 deaths. This fact was found on the CDC.Gov website.

If you are looking for a product free of partially-hydrogenated soybean oil then try Kashi Roll Bars!! Kashi Roll Bars are nutritious and healthy bars that can keep your blood flow flowing and balanced. By the way, Kashi Roll Bars are really famous and has a better taste than Snickers. Well that’s our opinion.

We don’t recommend Snickers to kids because we want all kids to have a safe and healthy environment. Although my co-author and I personally love Snickers, we are affected by the research we have done.  My partner and me won’t be eating this product any more and will be recommending to people to not eat Snickers.
